What is the Full Armor of God?
Eph. 6:10-18
The Belt of Truth
In Bible times soldiers had a leather girdle or belt tightened about their waist to carry weapons
of warfare, such as a dagger or
sword. The belt also held their tunic together. In Christian armor, it is integrity that holds
everything else together. Children ought to be
encouraged to always tell the truth even when it means getting into trouble. Easy right? ☺
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Purity – The breastplate of a soldier was
sometimes made of woven chain and used to cover the soldier’s vital organs. For the
Christian, the breastplate is righteousness. This is a way of living and although it is not always
easy to do the right thing, it is definitely worth practicing.
The Shoes of Peace
Tranquility – A Roman soldier’s would have hobnails on the sole, very much like football cleats
because when they were fighting they needed solid footwear for movement which in turn assured them
of victory. Our world has a lot of upheavals but learning how to have inner peace and exude it to
others around us would contribute to making the world a better place. Being calm amidst upheavals
helps us complete tasks or solve problems a lot better. Encourage your child to practice ‘quiet
times’ as well as ‘cool down’ moments to help them regulate emotions.
The Shield of Faith
Certainty – Our world is full of uncertainties and disappointments. Having Faith helps when doubts
or mistrust form. Cultivate having Faith that all will be well.
The Helmet of Salvation
Sanity – Soldiers used a helmet to protect their heads because if the head was wounded, they
wouldn’t be able to think and that was bad
in times of war. When you have an assurance of salvation it becomes easier to cope with challenges
because God is with you. We can encourage children to learn how to pray for comfort when they are
in distress.
Sword of the Spirit
The Word of God – We can also encourage children to learn God’s Word by reading Bible stories,
watching Bible animations and learning memory verses. There are Bible verses for every topic to
help us live Godly lives.
This is why we need to put on the full Armor of God.
